Best supplements for weight loss: A supplement which reduces the absorption of fat
BEST supplements for weight loss: With lockdown on the brink of easing and reunion with family and friends a soon reality, many may be panicking on how to lose those extra pounds piled on whilst being indoors. According to research, taking this supplement could help speed up the process. Supplements have been used around the world for a variety of health issues. Some are more powerful than others and when it comes to weight loss, a lesser known one could be the answer to help speed up your weight loss. Most know the health benefits of drinking coffee which include improving blood sugar control as well as improving blood lipid levels. Drinking coffee also has benefits on one’s waistline and helps burn calories. There is another coffee bean extract which contains compounds known as chlorogenic acids which some believe have antioxidant effects and help you lose weight. Green coffee bean extract is relatively unknown but contains caffeine just like regular coffee beans. It also has a stimulant which is linked to weight loss and boasts high levels of chlorogenic acid, a polyphenol antioxidant researchers speculate may promote weight loss. This is achieved by reducing the absorption of fat and glucose in the gut and lowering insulin levels to improve metabolic function. The extract is sold as a pill and can be found online or in health food stores with a typical dose being between 60 to 185mg per day. In a study with the National Library of Medicine, the effects of caffeine intake on weight loss was analysed. The study noted: “ This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials was performed to summarize the effect of caffeine intake on weight loss. “Overall, the current meta-analysis demonstrated that caffeine intake might promote weight, BMI and body fat reduction. ” The study concluded that caffeine consumption may help reduce body weight, body mass index and body fat. In another study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the use of green coffee extract as a weight loss supplement was investigated. The study noted: “ The purpose of this paper is to assess the efficacy of green coffee extract (GCE) as a weight loss supplement, using data from human clinical trials. “All studies were associated with a high risk of bias. The meta-analytic result reveals a significant difference in body weight compared with placebo. “The magnitude of the effect is moderate, and there is significant heterogeneity amongst the studies. “It is concluded that the results from these trials are promising, but the studies are all of poor methodological quality.” Medical News Today said : “Scientists believe the high levels of chlorogenic acids in green coffee bean extract are key to its weight loss effects. “An older review reports that chlorogenic acid may help lower blood sugar levels and reduce insulin spikes by reducing carbohydrate absorption in the digestive tract. “Chlorogenic acids may also boost fat metabolism, lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and improve obesity-related hormone levels. “Much of the existing research is on rats, however, and more human studies are needed.” It’s important to consult with your GP before embarking on new supplements for weight loss.
